NoHomophobes.com

Today I came across a website via one of my Facebook friends and thought I'd share it here. The website is called NoHomophobes.com and it is designed as a social mirror to show the prevalence of casual homophobia in our society.

Words and phrases like “faggot,” “dyke,” “no homo,” and “so gay” are used casually in everyday language, despite promoting the continued alienation, isolation and — in some tragic cases — suicide of sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ) youth. The people behind the site want to put curb the use of these homophobic slurs in casual conversation much in the same way that racist and sexist language are slowly not being tolerated in society.

The site keeps a daily tally of the use of homophobic slurs in tweets. Shockingly, as of 10:15am this morning the word faggot was used 7,381 times on Twitter. And the site actually reveals the offending posts to hold people accountable.
