Why the Blue Jays and Marlin Trade Should Not Be Vetoed.

After a blockbuster Major League Baseball trade was made between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Miami Marlins on November 13, baseball fans in Miami, including that city's mayor is calling for MLB commissioner Bud Selig to veto the trade.

The Toronto Blue Jays, according to a November 16 Hardball Times article, appear to be the winners of a trade in which they have not been accused of any wrong doing. The concern in south Florida lies with Marlins team owner Jeffrey Loria's mismanagement of the Marlins and his alienating of Marlin fans.

The deal would see shortstop Jose Reyes, pitchers Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, former Jays catcher John Buck and utility player Emilio Bonifacio heading to Toronto in exchange for shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria, pitcher Henderson Alvarez, catcher Jeff Mathis, and prospects Jake Marisnick, Justin Nicolino and Anthony DeSclafani.

Critics of the trade believe Loria is dumping the salaries of free-agent signings Reyes, Johnson, Buehrle for nothing, where Hardball Times do believe this is a relevant baseball trade, with some decent prospects heading to the Marlins.
